ABOUT THE SETT MANUAL

The Solar Energy Technical Training (SETT) Manual is a practical guide that may be of value to anyone interested in putting solar energy into practice - ranging from system designers and installers to users who want to get the most out of their system. Originally designed for NDWC’s in-house training of local technicians, the manual is now made available online based on the belief that the reputation of solar energy will benefit from systems being properly installed, used, and maintained.

Mixing theory basics with hands-on tips and examples, the SETT Manual may be a welcome reference work to those who don’t have easy access the wealth of information available on internet. By taking the power needs of people in Nigeria as a starting point, the SETT Manual aims to complement the existing body of information that focuses predominantly on power needs in western rather than developing societies.

NDWC has spent over 5 years experimenting with pilot solar systems in the Niger Delta region. Systems have been installed for powering water pumps, household lighting/ fans, and ICT/ office appliances. The systems (some of which now have been running for over 4 years without major problems) prove that even in the Niger Delta’s rainy climate, solar energy is an effective solution for meeting people’s power needs.

Fragments of the SETT Manual may be copied for non-profit information sharing, as long as due reference is made to NDWC.

Your feedback on the SETT Manual will be highly appreciated!
